Answer: My mother's shortsightedness only developed in her late teens, thus my brother did not need glasses until he was 17. Funny how genetics works... I'm guessing that your older son's hair will either go darker when he's older, or that one of his grandparents had blonde hair. Similar thing happened with my brother’s eyesight.
